| | The ISP business of AOL UK is now part of the Carphone Warehouse group and trades as AOL Broadband.
1996: The Internet services were launched. June 2002: The services were launched under the brand name AOL Broadband. AOL (UK) offers its DSL services via BTs telephone lines. October 2006: Carphone Warehouse reached an agreement with AOL UK to acquire the operators internet base in the UK. This was completed by the end of 2006. March 2007: Around 21.3 percent of AOL's total broadband customers were offered services on fully unbundled lines. The operator has around 390 unbundled exchanges covering 60 percent of the population. May 2007: AOL announced new broadband tariffs with a discount of £10 per month for customers in selected areas. This recognised the lower costs of providing services in exchange areas covered by the AOL-Carphone Warehouse LLU network.
AOL is well established as one of the biggest UK ISPs and acquisition of its customer base made Carphone Warehouse number three in the UK broadband market, behind BT and Virgin Media. AOL (UK), as part of the Time Warner group, continues to own and operate separate businesses in the UK, notably its internet portal.
